Sugar Cookies

These sugar cookies have been our go to recipe for about 15 years. First when I had my coffee shop we made large 4oz sugar cookies with frosting and colorful sprinkles. They were very popular and one of our best sellers. Now at Orders Up we use this recipe for all the holiday cut out cookies we do for special orders and also for the kids cooking classes (see pictures below).

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (softened)

  • 2 ounces cream cheese

  • 1 ¼ cup sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon almond extract

  • 3 cups flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda

  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt

  • Frosting Option 1:

  • 1 cup butter

  • 4 cups powdered sugar

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 2-3 tablespoons milk

  • In a stand mixer, cream together butter and powdered sugar. Add vanilla, salt, and milk. Mix until combined and frosting is smooth. Add more milk if needed for the desired consistency.

  • Frosting Option 2:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup

  • 1-2 tablespoons milk

  • Pinch of salt

  • Food coloring if desired

  • Mix until smooth.

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease two baking sheets or line them with parchment paper.
  • In a stand mixer, cream together butter, cream cheese, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add in eggs, vanilla, and almond extract; mix to combine.
  • Add in flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • If making rolled-out cookies, roll out the dough on a floured surface until ¼ inch thick.
  • If making regular sugar cookies, roll 1 ½ inch balls and place them on the parchment paper. Press the top of the dough down with your palm until the cookie is a 2-inch diameter.
  • Bake cookies for 8 minutes.
  • Allow them to cool entirely before frosting.
  • Makes about 3 ½ dozen cookies. Enjoy! 🍪✨
